Plan B - Writings On The Wall Textual Analysis

Image
Mise- The narrative is about a singer in a band having a one night stand with someone and therefore resulting in him being a cheater. In the music video he is wearing a grey suit and the colour grey can have connotations of being emotionless so we can see that the main character in the music video is emotionless or emotionless for other people which explains why he is cheating on his partner. To further this point you can see this contrasts with his partner because she is wearing a yellow shirt which has connotations of joy and happiness which suggests she is loyal to him which is also shown when she is preparing him dinner waiting for him to come home. So we can see there is a clear contrast between then two lovers, one is emotionless and disloyal whereas the other is happy and loyal to their partner. Further on in the music video you can see the main character wearing a black suit which is suggesting his mood has changed/increased because grey is not as harsh of a colour as black so

The purpose of a music video

Image
The purpose of a music video could be to:  sell the song, to make it more popular than it is already and to create a reaction from the audience so they will remember it  to give the listener a better idea of what the song means or what kind of message the artist is trying to get across to entertain the audience, this kind of music video would typically involve dancing or acting to sell and promote the album that the song is apart of, the music video will create a memorable vision of the song in the viewers head which can increase chances of the song being sold to them or them going out and buying it  performance based music videos are typically used to promote and entertain the audience because in most performance based music videos there is not a whole lot of meaning behind it An example of a music video that has a bigger meaning and is trying to spread a message is 'where is the love' by Black Eye Peas. This is because they are trying to end violence and racism by u

Whole music video analysis

For Yung Lean - Miami Ultras, the representation of gender is shown through the fact that he is wearing a dress in the music video which is essentially breaking the gender role through the fact that he is a male wearing a females clothing. It can cause controversy but also break stereotypes which is always a good thing.  From this i can see what is included in a specific genre of music, it shows what it takes to make a music video of that genre and what representations could be shown in these videos and whether it is performance, narrative based or both.

Specific Knowledge of music videos

I can use these ideas in my music video so that it makes it as much like a music video as possible, i can take the generic conventions and features of a music video and put it into my music video so therefore, i wont be reinventing the wheel which is something that typically isn't done too much.

Textual analysis of a music video

Textual analysis of a music video ‘Yung Lean – Eye Contact’ mise en scene In the beginning, relating to mise en scene, we can see that the music video begins with what it seems like a person from a marching band playing the trumpet. This could have connotations of feeling pressured into following everyone in society due to the fact that members of a marching band usually have to follow specific orders and all have to move synchronised to the point where they are all the same and they all look the same. This is telling us that the artist feels that in this day and age, a lot of people feel as if they have to follow societies orders and have to follow everyone and what they do rather than being different and expressing themselves in a different way from the rest of the world. The fact that some of the characters are dressed up in quite old/rustic clothing suggests that the thought of following societies rules is just an old myth and that nowadays its easier for people to

Audience Questionnaire Analysis

Music video questionnaire analysis Here are some of the results that I got from the questionnaire I carried out: All the people asked were males  All the people asked were under the age of 18  They all answered yes to 'do you like watching music videos'  There was a fairly diverse amount of answers for what the persons favourite genre is  A lot of people said they prefer narrative and performance based videos equally rather than preferring one of them Everyone who answered said they like special effects and animation  From this research i can gather that i need to include both narrative and performance based factors in my music videos because that is what is more preferred than including one of them. It also shows that i have a range of skills and can include different types of music videos rather than using one.

Music Video Questionnaires

Image
I did this because i wanted to be able to find a demographic for my music video. I wanted to know certain things so i would be able to add them into my music video in order to attract my target audience. An example is when i asked what they thought was the most important part of a music video, to which most of the people answered with editing and so therefore i need to focus a lot on the editing of the music video in order to attract the target audience i am creating. It helps to know what the target audience wants/likes in order for me to make my music video attract to them as much as possible.

Music Video History

Image
A music video is a short film accompanied with music and imagery. They are mainly produced for promotional or artistic purposes. In modern day they are usually made to promote the album of the artist or to promote the song further. There are many cases in which a music video has been a way to promote merchandise or even a movie. Music videos have been around for a very long time but became a lot more popular when the TV channel 'MTV' aired on TV the music video titled 'video killed the radio star'. Although this was the time music videos began to become very popular, this was not the first music video. The video considered the first 'music video' was called 'St Louis Blues' by Bessie Smith. The music video involved Bessie Smith drinking and singing to the song which is considered a music video. It was released in 1914, way before music videos were even a thing. All music videos either use: Animation  Live Action Filming  Documentaries  No

Other student’s music video Media Studies A2- Music Video (Full Marks A Grade) Stuck by Canopy Climbers Mise en scene – I like the locations used in the video, the field is good because it shows that it’s a place where the characters go to think and reflect on their actions and it’s a good way to begin a video with an establishing shot because it sets the scene for the video but also is a good location to have for establishing shots. Another thing to notice about the characters is that they are mostly wearing black, this could signify that they all have a dark secret that they are trying to keep secret and that they are in fear of each other through the use of the colour black. The music videos aesthetic overall is fairly dark and suggests that it has a dark meaning and that the things being done in the music video are dark and disturbing.   For camera angles, there seems to be a lot of close up shots of the different characters faces, this could be used to signify t

Viral Music Videos

Image
The definition of viral in terms of an image or a video is something that rapidly circulates the internet from user to user in a matter of days. Chocolate rain is a viral song that was released in 2007 by a person called Tay Zonday and it has been viewed over 114 million times on YouTube. It was ranked the hottest viral video in 2007 and was given a YouTube award in 2008 under the music category. The music video simply involved Tay Zonday standing in a room singing into a microphone. One thing that made it viral was when Tay would move away from the mic to breathe in because he held his breath when singing, this led to this segment of the video being parodied. The show became so popular that it led to being performed by Tay Zonday on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. It even blew up to the point where it was mentioned in an episode of South Park along with the Office.
